An Act to alter the Boundaries of the Akaroa and Wainui Road District, the Akaroa County, and the Wairewa County.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title and commencement.
This Act may be cited as the Akaroa and Wainui Road District, Akaroa County, and Wairewa County Alteration of Boundaries Act, 1912, and shall come into operation on the first day of April, nineteen hundred and thirteen.
2 Severance of part of the Akaroa and Wainui Road District.
That portion or area of the Akaroa and Wainui Road District described in the First Schedule hereto shall cease to form part of the said Akaroa and Wainui Road District, and the boundaries of the said district shall be as described in the Second Schedule hereto.
3 Alteration of boundaries of County of Akaroa.
The boundaries of the County of Akaroa are hereby altered, and the boundaries of the said county shall be as described in the Third Schedule hereto.
4 Alteration of boundaries of County of Wairewa.
The boundaries of the County of Wairewa are hereby altered, and the boundaries of the said county shall be as described in the Fourth Schedule hereto.
5 Addition to Little River Riding of County of Wairewa.
The said area described in the First Schedule hereto shall, subject to the powers of the Governor in Council and the Wairewa County Council to alter the same, be annexed to and be deemed part of the Little River Riding of the County of Wairewa, the boundaries whereof are described in the Fifth Schedule hereto.
6 Counties Act, 1908, to apply.
The provisions of the Counties Act relating to the alteration of boundaries between counties and to the severance of part of one county and the inclusion of such severed part in the boundaries of another county shall apply as if the alterations hereby effected had been carried out by agreement between the Akaroa County Council and the Wairewa County Council.
SCHEDULES.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded towards the north-west by the Summit Road from its junction with the Port Levy and Little River Road to the Purau Road, Block IX, Pigeon Bay Survey District; thence towards the north-east by the said Purau Road to the northernmost corner of Rural Section 25399, Block XIV, Pigeon Bay Survey District; thence south-westerly along the north-western boundaries of Rural Sections 25399, 35374, 17758, and 18831 to the Little River–Pigeon Bay Road; thence south-westerly along that road to the Little River–Akaroa Road; thence south-westerly along that road to its junction with Harman’s Track; thence south-westerly along Harman’s Track to the north-western corner of Reserve No. 1259; thence along the western boundary of that reserve to the Akaroa-Little River Road; thence south-westerly and north-westerly along the last-mentioned road and a closed road to the road formerly known as the Tarawera Valley Road; and bounded towards the south-west by the said Tarawera Valley Road, part of which is closed, through the Morice Settlement to the Port Levy and Little River Road; thence bounded towards the west by the last-mentioned road to the Summit Road at the point of commencement.
SECOND SCHEDULE. Akaroa and Wainui Road District.
All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded towards the north by the Pigeon Bay, Okain’s Bay, and Le Bon’s Bay Road Districts from the northernmost corner of Rural Section No. 25399 to the sea; thence towards the south-east and south generally by the sea; and towards the west by the Wairewa County as described in the Fourth Schedule hereto to the point of commencement: excepting the Borough of Akaroa.
THIRD SCHEDULE. County of Akaroa.
All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded towards the north-east, east, and south by the sea from the north-eastern corner of Mount Herbert County to the south-eastern corner of Wairewa County as described in the Fourth Schedule hereto; and thence towards the west by the said Wairewa County to the south-eastern boundary of Mount Herbert County; and thence towards the west generally by the said Mount Herbert County to the place of commencement: excepting the Borough of Akaroa.
FOURTH SCHEDULE. County of Wairewa.
Commencing at a point on the Ocean Beach, the same being the outlet of Lake Ellesmere to the sea, thence by a right line to the mouth of the River Halswell; thence generally northerly along the left bank of that river to the southernmost corner of Rural Section 1069, Block X, Halswell Survey District; thence northerly along the south-eastern boundary of that section and a line in continuation of the said boundary to the centre of the Ahuriri Bush Road South; thence north-easterly along the centre of that road to the southern boundary of Rural Section 1901, Block XI, Halswell Survey District; thence south-easterly and north-easterly along the southern and eastern boundaries of that section, and northerly along the eastern boundary of Sections 1863 and 1093 to the summit of the Port Hills; thence easterly in a direct line through Trig. L. 1 to Mount Herbert; thence again easterly in a direct line to Mount Herbert Peak, and a line in continuation of the same to Mount Herbert Peak Road; thence generally south-easterly along the centre of that road and the Purau or Summit Road to a point at the south-east corner of Rural Section 34200, the said point being the junction of the Port Levy-Little River Road with the Summit Road; thence north-easterly along the said Summit Road, which forms the north-western boundary of the Morice Settlement, to its junction with the Purau Road, Block IX, Pigeon Bay Survey District; thence south-easterly along the last-mentioned Road to the northernmost corner of Rural Section 25399, Block XIV, Pigeon Bay Survey District; thence south-westerly along the north-western boundaries of Rural Sections 25399, 35374, 17758, and 18831 to the Little River-Pigeon Bay Road; thence south-westerly along the northern side of that road and of the Little River-Akaroa Road to Harman’s Track; thence along Harman’s Track to the north-western corner of Reserve No. 1259; thence along the western boundary of that reserve to and across the Akaroa-Little River Road; thence north-easterly along the southern side of that road to Barry’s Pass; thence by the summit of the main range over the said Barry’s Pass, Wooded Peak, French Hill, Wainui Peak, Kitson’s Pole, Saddle Hill, and Carew’s Peak to Mount Bossu; thence in a direct line to the westernmost corner of Rural Section 4547, Block XI, Akaroa Survey District; thence along the south-western boundary of that section to the centre of the road forming the eastern boundaries of Rural Sections 22842 and 22755, Block XI, Akaroa Survey District; thence south-westerly along that road to its intersection with the northern boundary of Rural Section 23314; thence westerly to the northernmost corner of that section; thence southerly along the west boundary of said Section 23314 to its south-western corner; thence easterly to the northernmost corner of Rural Section 22709; thence again southerly to the westernmost corner of Rural Section 22708, and easterly along the south boundary of that section to the dividing-line between Rural Sections 22707 and 22463; thence southerly by that boundary and its production to the sea; and thence generally westerly along the sea-shore to the outlet of Lake Ellesmere to the sea, being the aforesaid point of commencement.
FIFTH SCHEDULE. Little River Riding of Wairewa County.
All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded towards the north by the Mount Herbert County from the north-eastern corner of Kaituna Riding to the junction of the Summit Road with the Purau Road; thence towards the north-east and east generally by Akaroa County as described in the Third Schedule hereto to the Wainui Pass Road; thence by that road to the road forming the southern boundary of Rural Section 31001; thence westerly along the last-mentioned road and the northern boundaries of Rural Sections 35687, 29328, 21118, and part of the road forming the eastern boundary of Rural Section 18850 to the Okute Valley Road; thence westerly by that road to the junction of the roads in Educational Reserve No. 157; thence by the road running south-easterly to the Okute River; thence by that river and the Kakerikawai River to Lake Forsyth; thence by that lake to its southern end, and across the Spit to the sea; thence by the sea to the outlet of Lake Ellesmere; thence towards the north-west by a right line to the mouth of the River Halswell; thence by the Kaituna Riding aforesaid to the place of commencement.
