An Act to amend the Scaffolding and Excavation Act, 1922.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Scaffolding and Excavation Amendment Act, 1924, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Scaffolding and Excavation Act, 1922 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Section 1 of principal Act amended.
Section one of the principal Act is hereby amended by adding to subsection two the words “other than a tramway intended for the carriage of passengers.”
3 Section 2 of principal Act amended.
Section two of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting in the definition of the term “scaffolding,”
after the word “workmen,”
the words “or other persons.”
4 Section 5 of principal Act amended.
Section five of the principal Act is hereby amended as follows:—
(a.)
By repealing paragraph (a) of subsection one, and substituting the following paragraph:—
“(a.)
Begin the erection of any scaffolding or begin any building-work if at any time during the course of such erection or work any person engaged therein may incur the risk of a fall of twelve feet or more.”
(b.)
By adding to paragraph (c) of subsection one the following words: “or within a distance of five feet from any building more than twelve feet in height begin any work which if of a depth of five feet would be an excavation.”
