An Act to Amend the Patriotic and Canteen Funds Act, 1947.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title and commencement.

(1)
This Act may be cited as the Patriotic and Canteen Funds Amendment Act, 1948, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Patriotic and Canteen Funds Act, 1947 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
(2)
This Act shall come into force on the first day of December, nineteen hundred and forty-eight.
2 Amending provisions as to officers of the New Zealand Patriotic Fund Board.
Section eight of the principal Act is hereby repealed, and the following section substituted:—
“8
“(1)
The Board may appoint a Secretary, who shall also be the Secretary of the Canteen Fund Board constituted under this Act.
“(2)
The Board may appoint a Treasurer and such other officers and servants as it deems necessary for the efficient carrying out of its functions under this Act.”
3 Amending provisions as to officers of the Canteen Fund Board.
Section thirty of the principal Act is hereby amended as follows:—
(a)
By omitting from subsection one the words “and members of the staff of the Secretary”
:
(b)
By repealing subsection two, and substituting the following new subsection:—
“(2)
Any person may be employed concurrently as an officer or servant of the New Zealand Patriotic Fund Board and as an officer or servant of the Canteen Fund Board.”
4 Boards may make provision for superannuation of officers.
Section thirty-five of the principal Act is hereby amended by adding the following new subsections as subsections two and three thereof:—
“(2)
Each Board may contribute to the National Provident Fund or may contribute to or subsidize any other fund or scheme approved by the Governor-General in Council, for the purpose of providing superannuation or retiring allowances for its officers and servants.
“(3)
Where any person in respect of whom any contributions are made under the last preceding subsection is an officer or servant of the New Zealand Patriotic Fund Board and also of the Canteen Fund Board, the contributions shall be made by the New Zealand Patriotic Fund Board only, which shall be entitled to recover from the Canteen Fund Board such portion thereof as may be agreed on by the said Boards, or, in default of agreement, as may be determined by the Minister of Finance.”
