An Act to amend the Auckland War Memorial Museum Maintenance Act 1928.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Auckland War Memorial Museum Maintenance Amendment Act 1953, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Auckland War Memorial Museum Maintenance Act 1928 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Contributions of local bodies.
(1)
The principal Act is hereby amended by repealing sections three and four, as amended by sections two and three of the Auckland War Memorial Museum Maintenance Amendment Act 1945, and substituting the following section:

“(1)
Every local body whose district is named in the Schedule hereto, or which shall be added as a contributing local body by Order in Council made under section eight of the Auckland War Memorial Museum Maintenance Amendment Act 1945, shall contribute annually towards the efficient maintenance and support of the Auckland War Memorial Museum such sum per head of the total population of its district, not exceeding one shilling per head of such total population, as shall be fixed in each year by the executive council or body controlling the affairs of the Institute and Museum.
“(2)
The sum per head so fixed in each year shall apply to each and all of the said local bodies.
“(3)
For the purposes of this section, the total populations of the respective districts shall be taken at the figures estimated by the Government Statistician on or as at the twenty-eighth day of February in each year and based on such statistics and other information as shall then be available to him, and his certificate shall be final and conclusive.
“(4)
In the event of any portions of the districts named in the Schedule hereto being constituted as separate local districts (whether or not with the addition of further areas), the local body of each such newly constituted district shall thereupon become one of the contributing local bodies under subsection one of this section.”
Consequential repeals.
(2)
Sections two and three of the Auckland War Memorial Museum Maintenance Amendment Act 1945 are hereby consequentially repealed.
3 New Schedule to principal Act (contributing local bodies).
The principal Act is hereby further amended by repealing the Schedule, and substituting the following Schedule:
“SCHEDULE
“The City of Auckland.
“The Boroughs of Birkenhead, Devonport, Ellerslie, Glen Eden, Helensville, Henderson, Howick, Manurewa, Mount Albert, Mount Eden, Mount Roskill, Mount Wellington, New Lynn, Newmarket, Northcote, Onehunga, One Tree Hill, Otahuhu, Papakura, Papatoetoe, and Takapuna.
“The Road District of Panmure Township.
“The Counties of Manukau and Waitemata.”
4 Superannuation and other benefits for employees.
The executive council or body controlling the affairs of the Institute and Museum shall be deemed to be a local authority for the purposes of the National Provident Fund Act 1950 and section six of the Finance Act (No. 2) 1941.
