An Act to empower the Coromandel County Council to make an ambulance levy on ratepayers in certain areas of the Coromandel County
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Coromandel County Council Ambulance Levy Act 1962.
2 Power to make ambulance levy
(1)
For the purposes specified in this section the Coromandel County Council is hereby empowered to levy a uniform annual charge upon those ratepayers who are liable under the Rating Act 1925 to pay rates on rateable property situated within such portions of the Coromandel County as the Council may from time to time prescribe.
(2)
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in section 112 of the Counties Act 1956 or any other provision of that Act, the uniform annual charge shall be of such an amount not exceeding ten shillings as may be fixed by the Council from year to year.
(3)
The money derived from the said levy shall be used for the payment of the running costs and maintenance of an ambulance to be stationed at Coromandel, and to provide a fund for the replacement of the said ambulance.
(4)
The said levy shall be included in and form part of the rate demands issued annually by the Council and shall be recoverable in the same manner as rates are recoverable under the Rating Act 1925.
