An Act to amend the Electoral Act 1956
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Electoral Amendment Act 1967, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Electoral Act 1956 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Representation of electoral districts
Section 25 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsections (2) and (3), and substituting the following subsection:
“(2)
Any person qualified under subsection (1) of this section to be a candidate and to be elected a member of Parliament shall be qualified to be a candidate and to be elected a member for any European electoral district or for any Maori electoral district.”
3 Sale of liquor on polling day
(1)
Section 97 of the principal Act (as amended by sections 300 and 301 of the Sale of Liquor Act 1962) is hereby repealed.
(2)
The Fifth Schedule to the Sale of Liquor Act 1962 is hereby consequentially amended by repealing so much thereof as relates to the Electoral Act 1956.
(3)
Section 39 of the Licensing Act 1908 (as substituted by section 7 of the Licensing Amendment Act 1957) is hereby consequentially amended by omitting the words “sections ninety-seven and ninety-eight”
, and substituting the words “section 98”
