An Act to amend the Meat Export Control Act 1921–22
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Meat Export Control Amendment Act 1971, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Meat Export Control Act 1921–22 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Board may buy and sell meat
(1)
Section 14b of the principal Act (as inserted by section 3 of the Meat Export Control Amendment Act 1959) is hereby amended by repealing subsection (1) and subsection (1a) (as inserted by section 2(1) of the Meat Export Control Amendment Act (No. 2) 1962), and substituting the following subsections:
“(1)
The Board may buy and may sell or otherwise dispose of any meat produced in New Zealand and exported from or intended to be exported from New Zealand, being—
“(a)
Meat derived from sheep; or
“(b)
Meat derived from any other species of stock specified by the Governor-General by Order in Council.
“(1a)
The Board may buy any meat produced in New Zealand, being meat to which subsection (1) of this section does not for the time being apply, and may sell or otherwise dispose of any such meat exported from or intended to be exported from New Zealand, in order to promote the sale of New Zealand meat in any other country or to maintain the market for New Zealand meat in any other country.
“(1b)
The powers conferred on the Board by subsection (1a) of this section shall be exercised by the Board for the purposes of establishing markets for New Zealand meat in countries where, in the opinion of the Board, no market or no substantial market for New Zealand meat or for a particular class of that meat exists and of expanding or maintaining markets in those countries, and no contract under the said subsection (1a) for the sale or other disposal of meat shall be entered into by the Board otherwise than for a purpose referred to in this subsection.
“(1c)
The powers conferred on the Board by subsection (1) or subsection (1a) of this section shall include power to buy any stock the meat derived from which is intended for export.”
(2)
The Meat Export Control Amendment Act (No. 2) 1962 is hereby consequentially repealed.
3 Appeals from demand for market development levy
Section 5 of the Meat Export Control Amendment Act 1970 is hereby amended as from its commencement by omitting the words “principal Act”
, and substituting the words “Meat Export Control Amendment Act 1966”
.
