An Act to amend the Social Security (Reciprocity with the United Kingdom) Act 1969
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title and commencement
(1)
This Act may be cited as the Social Security (Reciprocity with the United Kingdom) Amendment Act 1976, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Social Security (Reciprocity with the United Kingdom) Act 1969 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
(2)
This Act shall come into force on the 9th day of February 1977.
2 Modification of Social Security Act
Section 2 of the principal Act is hereby amended by adding the following additional proviso:
“Provided also that, for the purposes of national superannuation and notwithstanding anything to the contrary in paragraph (3) of Article 27 of the agreement set out in the Schedule to this Act, the Social Security Commission may, in its discretion, pay arrears of national superannuation for the first 12 months of a beneficiary’s absence in circumstances where the said paragraph (3) would otherwise apply.”
3 National superannuation
The principal Act is hereby further amended by inserting, after section 2, the following section:
“2a
For the purpose of giving effect to the agreement set out in the Schedule to this Act, every reference in section 2 of this Act, and in the said agreement, to age benefit or superannuation benefit shall be read as a reference to national superannuation payable under the Social Security Act 1964.”
