An Act to amend the Law Practitioners Act 1955
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Law Practitioners Amendment Act 1976, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Law Practitioners Act 1955 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Maximum annual contribution to Solicitors’ Fidelity Guarantee Fund increased

Section 85(1) of the principal Act (as amended by section 4(1)(b) of the Law Practitioners Amendment Act 1975) is hereby further amended by omitting the expression “$50”
, and substituting the expression “$100”
.
(2)
Section 4(1)(b) of the Law Practitioners Amendment Act 1975 is hereby consequentially repealed.
3 Circumstances in which levy may be imposed widened
Section 87(1) of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting, after the words “is not sufficient”
, the words “, or, in the opinion of the Council having regard to any prospective claims or liabilities likely to be received or incurred, may not be sufficient,”
.
