An Act to amend the Department of Social Welfare Act 1971
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Department of Social Welfare Amendment Act 1981, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Department of Social Welfare Act 1971 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Social welfare volunteers
The principal Act is hereby amended by inserting, after section 9, the following section:
“9a
“(1)
The Director-General may from time to time appoint such persons as he considers fit for the purpose to serve in the community, in association with the Department, as social welfare volunteers.
“(2)
The provisions of the State Services Act 1962 shall not apply in respect of any person so appointed.
“(3)
Every social welfare volunteer, while so serving in association with the Department, shall act in accordance with any directions that the Director-General may give to him.
“(4)
The Director-General may at any time revoke the appointment of any person as a social welfare volunteer.”
This Act is administered in the Department of Social Welfare.
