PURSUANT to section 89 of the Fisheries Act 1983, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations revoke regulation 7 of the Fisheries (Southland and Sub-Antarctic Areas Commercial Fishing) Regulations 1986, which imposes restrictions on the Foveaux Strait dredge oyster fishery. The restrictions are no longer needed after 1 June 1997, when the oysters come under an individual quota management regime (see the Fisheries (1997 Foveaux Strait Dredge Oyster Quota) Regulations 1997).
