Gas Amendment Regulations 1998: revoked, on 4 May 2010, pursuant to regulation 92 of the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations 2010 (SR 2010/76).

These regulations are administered by the Ministry of Commerce.
PURSUANT to the Gas Act 1992, His Excellency the Administrator of the Government, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.
1 Title and commencement

(1) These regulations may be cited as the Gas Amendment Regulations 1998, and are part of the Gas Regulations 19931 (
“the principal regulations”
).(2) These regulations come into force on 1 June 1998.
2 Records and location of distribution systems

The principal regulations are amended by revoking regulation 6, and substituting the following regulation:

“(1) The operator of a distribution system must keep records and plans of the distribution system that—
-
“(a) Comply with either subclause (2) or subclause (3); and
-
“(b) Include—
-
“(i) The location of cathodic protection systems; and
-
“(ii) Leakage surveys carried out; and
-
“(iii) Tests and calibration carried out on safety equipment; and
-
“(iv) The location of abandoned and inactive services.

“(2) Records and plans of a distribution system comply with this subclause if they enable the operator of the distribution system to identify and locate readily—
-
“(a) Any fittings of the distribution system; and
-
“(b) Any work carried out on the distribution system.
“(3) Records and plans of a distribution system comply with this subclause if they comply with NZS 5258:1995, Gas Distribution.”

3 Safety of distribution systems

The principal regulations are amended by revoking regulation 7, and substituting the following regulation:

Every owner and every operator of a distribution system must ensure that the distribution system is designed, constructed, maintained, and operated in such a manner that,—
-
“(a) As far as practicable, continuity of supply, immunity from danger, and satisfactory operation is achieved; or
-
“(b) Complies with NZS 5258:1995, Gas Distribution.”

4 Safety of gas installations

The principal regulations are amended by revoking regulation 12, and substituting the following regulation:

“(1) Gas installations, other than gas appliances and fittings to which regulation 18 applies, must be installed in accordance with Part 1 of NZS 5261:1996, The Installation of Gas Burning Appliances and Equipment.
“(2) Any person installing a gas installation must ensure that at any point in the installation where gas is used, the gas pressure is sufficient so that there is no flame light back, flame extinction, or incomplete combustion.
“(3) For the purposes of subclause (1), NZS 5261:1996, The Installation of Gas Burning Appliances and Equipment, applies as if paragraphs 101.2.2, 101.2.3, and 102.1 were omitted.”
