This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on 12 June 2015, amends the New Zealand Council for Educational Research (Electoral College) Order 2009 (the principal order).

The principal order is made under section 21 of the New Zealand Council for Educational Research Act 1972. Section 6 of that Act provides that the Council’s constitution includes 6 members, appointed by the Governor-General, who have been elected by an electoral college.

The principal order lists the people who are entitled to be on the roll of the electoral college. This order changes that list by—

• adding Robyn Baker, former director of the Council; and

• replacing “general manager” of Careers New Zealand with the updated job title of “chief executive” of that organisation; and

• removing the requirement that up to 8 chief executives of polytechnics must be nominated by Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics of New Zealand Incorporated. There will still be up to 8 polytechnic chief executives on the electoral college but Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics of New Zealand Incorporated no longer exists so the chief executives will be nominated by polytechnics instead; and

• adding 5 organisations that may nominate 1 person each.
