Fisheries (Amateur Fishing) Amendment Regulations 2025

These regulations are made under sections 297 and 298 of the Fisheries Act 1996—
(a)
on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council; and
(b)
on the recommendation of the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries made in accordance with section 11 of that Act after undertaking consultation in accordance with section 12 of that Act.
Regulations
1 Title
These regulations are the Fisheries (Amateur Fishing) Amendment Regulations 2025.
2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on 4 September 2025.
3 Principal regulations
These regulations amend the Fisheries (Amateur Fishing) Regulations 2013.
4 Regulation 105 amended (Prohibition on taking or possessing blue cod in Marlborough Sounds area during closed season)
In regulation 105(4), definition of closed season, replace “19 December in that year”
with “10 January in the next year”

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 4 September 2025, amend regulation 105 of the Fisheries (Amateur Fishing) Regulations 2013 (the principal regulations).
Regulation 105 of the principal regulations provides for a closed season for the taking and possessing of blue cod in the Marlborough Sounds area, which applies to non-commercial fishers.
The definition of closed season is amended to extend the duration of the closed season. The new closed season will commence on 1 September in each year and run until the close of 10 January in the next year.
