This notice is administered by the Ministry of Health.
Pursuant to sections 5A and 31(1) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975, the Minister of Health gives the following notice.
Notice
1 Title
This notice is the Misuse of Drugs (Approved Laboratories and Analysts in Charge) Notice 2000.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on 20 October 2000.
3 Approved laboratories
The following laboratories are approved for the purposes of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975:
(a)
the laboratory of the New Zealand Institute for Public Health and Forensic Science Limited situated at Hampstead Road, Auckland:
(b)
the laboratory of the New Zealand Institute for Public Health and Forensic Science Limited situated at Kenepuru Drive, Porirua:
(c)
the laboratory of the New Zealand Institute for Public Health and Forensic Science Limited situated at Creyke Road, Ilam, Christchurch.
Clause 3: editorial changes made by the PCO, on 4 August 2025, under sections 86(1) and 87(c) of the Legislation Act 2019 (2019 No 58).
4 Analysts in charge
(1)
Kevan Arthur John Walsh, MSc (Hons), is designated as the analyst in charge of the approved laboratory referred to in clause 3(a).
(2)
Matthew Robert Hosking, BSc, is designated as the analyst in charge of the approved laboratory referred to in clause 3(b).
(3)
Gary Gillespie, BSc (Hons), MSc, is designated as the analyst in charge of the approved laboratory referred to in clause 3(c).
Clause 4(1): amended, on 10 February 2017, by clause 4 of the Misuse of Drugs (Approved Laboratories and Analysts in Charge) Amendment Notice 2017 (LI 2017/8).
Clause 4(2): amended, on 13 April 2022, by clause 4(1) of the Misuse of Drugs (Approved Laboratories and Analysts in Charge) Amendment Notice 2022 (SL 2022/105).

5 Withdrawal of approval of laboratory
The approval under section 5A of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 of the laboratory of the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited at Gracefield Road, Lower Hutt is withdrawn.
6 Consequential revocations
The following notices are revoked:

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Misuse of Drugs (Approved Laboratories and Analysts in Charge) Notice 2000 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
2 Legal status
A consolidation is taken to correctly state, as at its stated date, the law enacted or made by the legislation consolidated and by the amendments. This presumption applies unless the contrary is shown.
Section 78 of the Legislation Act 2019 provides that this consolidation, published as an electronic version, is an official version. A printed version of legislation that is produced directly from this official electronic version is also an official version.
