Pursuant to section 5 of the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Act 1978, the Minister of Research, Science and Innovation, on the recommendation of the New Zealand Heavy Engineering Research Association Incorporated and after consultation with The New Zealand Manufacturers and Exporters Association Incorporated, gives the following notice.

1 Title
This notice is the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Notice 2018.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on 1 February 2019.
3 Rates of research levy
The research levy under the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Act 1978 is payable,—
(a)
in the case of the levied items specified in Schedule 2 of the Act, at the rate of $10 for each tonne (apportioned rateably in respect of goods weighing less than 1 tonne); and
(b)
in the case of the levied items specified in Schedule 3 of the Act, at the rate of 10 cents for each kilogram (apportioned rateably in respect of goods weighing less than 1 kilogram).
4 Revocation
The Heavy Engineering Research Levy Notice 2013 (SR 2013/227) is revoked.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice, which comes into force on 1 February 2019, prescribes the rates of the research levy payable under the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Act 1978 (the Act).
The notice—
continues the levy rate of $10 per tonne for items specified in Schedule 2 of the Act:
increases the levy rate for items specified in Schedule 3 of the Act from 5 cents per kilogram to 10 cents per kilogram.
This notice is made following consultation with The New Zealand Manufacturers and Exporters Association Incorporated.
This notice revokes the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Notice 2013.
Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2019.

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Notice 2018 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
2 Legal status
A consolidation is taken to correctly state, as at its stated date, the law enacted or made by the legislation consolidated and by the amendments. This presumption applies unless the contrary is shown.
Section 78 of the Legislation Act 2019 provides that this consolidation, published as an electronic version, is an official version. A printed version of legislation that is produced directly from this official electronic version is also an official version.
