Pursuant to regulation 23 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title
This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Mahitahi/Bruce Bay, Manakaiaua/Hunts Beach, Tauparikaka, and Okuru/Mussel Point Mātaitai Reserves) Notice 2019.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on 15 August 2019.
3 Revocation of this notice
This notice is revoked at the end of 16 December 2023.
4 Mātaitai reserves
This notice applies to the Mahitahi/Bruce Bay, Manakaiaua/Hunts Beach, Tauparikaka, and Okuru/Mussel Point mātaitai reserves, on the west coast of the South Island, which were declared by the following notices:

5 Appointment cancelled
(1)
The Minister of Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of Rihari Wallace as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserves.
(2)
The cancellation took effect at the end of 16 December 2018.
6 New appointment
(1)
The Minister of Fisheries has appointed William Wilson as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserves.
(2)
The appointment—
(a)
took effect on 17 December 2018; and
(b)
expires at the end of 16 December 2023.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 15 August 2019 and revokes itself at the end of 16 December 2023.
The notice relates to the Mahitahi/Bruce Bay, Manakaiaua/Hunts Beach, Tauparikaka, and Okuru/Mussel Point mātaitai reserves, which are on the west coast of the South Island. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserves are represented by Te Rūnaka o Makaawhio.
Notice is given of the cancellation of the appointment of a Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the 4 mātaitai reserves and the appointment of a replacement. The Minister of Fisheries cancelled the appointment and made the replacement appointment at the request of Te Rūnaka o Makaawhio.
The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Mahitahi/Bruce Bay, Manakaiaua/Hunts Beach, Tauparikaka, and Okuru/Mussel Point Mātaitai Reserves) Notice 2019 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
2 Legal status
