Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.
Notice
1 Title
This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Ōtākou Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on 1 November 2019.
3 Revocation of this notice
This notice is revoked at the end of 26 June 2024.
4 Mātaitai reserve
This notice applies to the Ōtākou Mātaitai Reserve, which is an area in the outer Otago Harbour, that was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration of Ōtākou Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2016.
5 New appointment
(1)
The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Natalie Karaitiana as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve.
(2)
The appointment—
(a)
took effect on 27 June 2019; and
(b)
expires at the end of 26 June 2024.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 1 November 2019 and revokes itself at the end of 26 June 2024.
The notice relates to the Ōtākou Mātaitai Reserve, which is an area in the outer Otago Harbour. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Rūnanga o Ōtākou.
Notice is given of the appointment of a new Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve. The Minister of Fisheries made the appointment at the request of Te Rūnanga o Ōtākou.
The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Ōtākou Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
