Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1 Title
This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Opihi Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on 31 January 2020.
3 Revocation of this notice
This notice is revoked at the end of 20 August 2024.
4 Mātaitai reserve
This notice applies to the Opihi Mātaitai Reserve, in the Opihi Lagoon area of South Canterbury, that was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration of Opihi Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2014 (LI 2014/234).
5 New appointments

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

(2)
The appointments—
(a)
took effect on 6 August 2019; and
(b)
expire at the end of 5 August 2024.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 31 January 2020 and revokes itself at the end of 20 August 2024.
The notice relates to the Opihi Mātaitai Reserve, which is in the Opihi Lagoon area of South Canterbury. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua.
The notice relates to—
the appointment of 2 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve; and
the reappointment of 12 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve.
The Minister of Fisheries made the appointments and reappointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua.
The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Opihi Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
2 Legal status
A consolidation is taken to correctly state, as at its stated date, the law enacted or made by the legislation consolidated and by the amendments. This presumption applies unless the contrary is shown.
