Pursuant to regulations 9 and 10 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title
This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua) Notice 2019.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
3 Revocation of this notice
This notice is revoked at the end of 10 December 2023.
4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana
This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 2) 1998 (Gazette 1998, p 3587), which is an area from the Pareora River to Whakatu (north of the Ashburton River/Hakatere).
5 New appointment
(1)
The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Tairoa Benson as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.
(2)
The appointment—
(a)
took effect on 11 December 2018; and
(b)
expires at the end of 10 December 2023.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself at the end of 10 December 2023.
The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua. The area/rohe moana is an area from the Pareora River to Whakatu (north of the Ashburton River/Hakatere).
Notice is given of the appointment of a replacement Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki and of the reappointment of 6 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the replacement appointment and the reappointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua.
The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.

1 General
