Legislation Act 2019 Commencement Order 2021
Patsy Reddy, Governor-General
Order in Council
At Wellington this 13th day of September 2021
Present:
The Right Hon Jacinda Ardern presiding in Council
This order is made under section 2 of the Legislation Act 2019 on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council.
Order
1 Title
This order is the Legislation Act 2019 Commencement Order 2021.
2 Commencement of Legislation Act 2019
The Legislation Act 2019 (other than Part 4, section 148, and the provisions that are already in force) comes into force on 28 October 2021.
Michael Webster,
Clerk of the Executive Council.
Explanatory note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This order brings most of the Legislation Act 2019 into force on 28 October 2021.
The Act sets out principles and rules for interpreting legislation and for its publication, presentation, and disallowance. It also provides tools for modernising and simplifying legislation and keeping it up to date. It also continues the Parliamentary Counsel Office.
Part 4, which relates to disclosure requirements for Government-initiated legislation, will be brought into force at a later date.
Section 148 is not commenced because it is redundant. This is because the report it relates to has already been presented to the House of Representatives on 17 March 2021. If section 148 had come into force earlier, it would have repealed itself on 1 July 2021.
