Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 21 September 2023, amend the Fisheries (Electronic Monitoring on Vessels) Regulations 2017 (the principal regulations).
The principal regulations set out the dates from which different groups of fishing vessels are required to operate video cameras, record fishing and related activities, and provide footage to the chief executive of the Ministry for Primary Industries.
These regulations amend some of those dates.
These regulations also amend the principal regulations to provide that obligations in relation to monitored fishing using set netting or trawling in the North, East, and South Coast of the South Island continue to apply if those obligations applied immediately before the commencement of the regulations.
Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2019.
Date of notification in Gazette: 24 August 2023.
These regulations are administered by the Ministry for Primary Industries.
