Explanatory memorandum
This memorandum is not part of the determination but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This determination amends the Local Government Members (2024/25) Determination 2024.
The amendments relating to Gisborne District Council are deemed to have come into force on 28 March 2025. The amendments reflect the changes, which were approved by the Remuneration Authority (the Authority), that the Council made to its elected members’ remuneration following the resignation of a councillor. The Council had resolved not to fill the vacancy, as provided under section 117(3)(b) of the Local Electoral Act 2001, and to reallocate the amount not being paid as a result of the vacancy among its remaining councillors.
The amendments relating to Hamilton City Council are deemed to have come into force on 21 March 2025. Those amendments reflect the changes that the Council made to its governance structure following the resignation of one of its councillors. The Council has resolved not to fill the vacancy and to reallocate the amount not being paid as a result of the vacancy among its remaining councillors. The remuneration amounts as shown in the determination were approved by the Authority.
The amendments relating to Horowhenua District Council are deemed to have come into force on 28 November 2024. Those amendments reflect the changes that the Council made to its councillors’ remuneration, as approved by the Authority, due to the resignation of a councillor. The Council resolved not to fill the extraordinary vacancy created by the resignation.
The amendments relating to Taupo District Council are deemed to have come into force on 8 March 2025. The resignation of a councillor has created a vacancy on the Council, which the Council has decided not to fill before the October 2025 local elections. Accordingly, the Council resolved to reallocate its governance remuneration pool, as approved by the Authority, among its remaining councillors.
The amendments relating to Waipa District Council are deemed to have come into force on 27 February 2025. Those amendments reflect the changes that the Mayor made to the Council’s Committee Chair and Deputy Committee Chair roles, which altered the allocation of their responsibilities and saw a reallocation, as approved by the Authority, of the Council’s governance remuneration pool among the various role holders.
Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2019.
Date of notification in Gazette: 1 May 2025.
