Education (Teaching Council of Aotearoa) Amendment Bill
Proposed amendment
Hon Nikki Kaye, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Schedule 2
In Schedule 2, new clause 1 of Schedule 21, replace subclause (3) (page 8, lines 16 to 18) with:
(3)
At least one of the appointed members must be appointed after the Minister consults with, and receives recommendations from, representatives of parent, school trustee, and community interest groups in relation to schools and early childhood education services.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Education (Teaching Council of Aotearoa) Amendment Bill. It will ensure that the Minister properly consults with parents, school trustees, and community groups when appointing a member to the Teaching Council, rather than doing so “as the Minister thinks fit”
, which is currently in the Bill.
