Education (Freedom of Association) Amendment Bill
Proposed amendments
David Clendon, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
Clause 6, new section 229CA
To insert the following subsection after subsection (3) (after line 19 on page 4):
“(3A) Students associations must—
“(a) provide a full refund of membership fees if fewer than 10 working days since the first day of membership have elapsed:
“(b) refund a proportion of the initial membership fee paid to the association in the case of withdrawal after the first 10 working days that is in proportion to their length of membership for that academic year:
“(c) pay refunds directly to the student withdrawing.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Education (Freedom of Association) Amendment Bill as follows:
Clause 6, new section 229CA(3A) : provides for refunds. The Bill currently is unclear on whether a full refund should be given to a member who wishes to leave a student union. This amendment clarifies that only a part payment has to be made based on the length of membership for that academic year.
