Kahurangi Carter, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 4A
Before clause 4A(1) (page 2, before line 14), insert:
(1AAA)
Replace section 7(2)(c)(ii) with:
(ii)
have particular regard for the values, culture, and beliefs of the Māori people, including—
(A)
mana tamaiti:
(B)
the whakapapa of Māori children and young persons:
(C)
the whanaungatanga responsibilities of Māori children and young people’s whānau, hapū, and iwi; and
Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper amends the Oranga Tamariki (Repeal of Section 7AA) Amendment Bill. This amendment elaborates on and clarifies what is meant by requiring particular regard for Māori values, culture, and beliefs. It requires specific attention be paid to the inherent value and dignity of tamariki Māori and their whakapapa in all actions taken and services delivered by Oranga Tamariki.
