Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper amends the Privacy Amendment Bill (the Bill) to change the commencement date for Part 1 of the Bill from 1 June 2025 to 1 May 2026. This later commencement date for Part 1 ensures that agencies have sufficient time to modify their systems and processes before having to comply with new information privacy principle 3A.
The heading to clause 6 and new section 25A of the Privacy Act 2020 are amended to reflect the later commencement date for Part 1 of the Bill.
Departmental disclosure statement
The Ministry of Justice considers that a departmental disclosure statement is not required to be prepared for this Amendment Paper.
