Education (Update) Amendment Bill
Proposed amendments
Catherine Delahunty, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
Clause 4
In clause 4, new section 1A(3)(c)(iv), replace “and te reo Māori.”
(page 14, line 5) with “:”
.
In clause 4, after new section 1A(3)(c)(iv) (page 14, after line 5), insert:
(v)
te reo Māori through the teaching of Te Reo Māori as a core subject in the national curriculum up to Year 10.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 4 in the Education (Update) Amendment Bill to enable the teaching of Te Reo Māori to every New Zealand child up until Year 10. We have a responsibility to ensure that our indigenous language thrives in Aotearoa, and introducing all children to it at school is the best way to make that happen.
