Proposed amendment

Francisco Hernandez, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Clause 22

In clause 22, new section 318(2), after paragraph (a) (page 13, after line 4), insert:

(aa)

ensure that at least 1 council member is Māori; and

Explanatory note

This Amendment Paper amends the Education and Training (Vocational Education and Training System) Amendment Bill. It is essential that the Crown honour Te Tiriti by guaranteeing Māori representation for polytechnic councils.

Submitters were strongly in favour of the inclusion of Te Tiriti provisions in the legislation to ensure that there would be appropriate representation for Māori.
