Domestic Violence—Victims’ Protection Bill
Proposed amendment to SOP No 39
Hon Mark Mitchell, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 7
In clause 7, after new section 69ABK (page 16), insert:
69ABL Educational campaign
Within 6 months of the Domestic Violence—Victims’ Protection Act 2016 coming into force, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment must undertake an educational awareness campaign throughout New Zealand to advise small and medium businesses on how to comply with the changes contained within that Act.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends SOP No 39, amending clause 7 of the Domestic Violence—Victims’ Protection Bill to insert new section 69ABL into the Employment Relations Act 2000. It would require the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) to undertake a nationwide educational campaign in order to assist small and medium businesses to comply with the changes contained within the Act, including additional leave requirements and new flexible working environment requirements.
Small and medium businesses may find these changes hard to understand and may require guidance in how to implement them correctly in order to comply with the law. Requiring MBIE to provide assistance will help businesses that might otherwise struggle to understand and implement these changes.
