Proposed amendment
Hon Dr Nick Smith, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
New clause 7
After clause 6 (page 4, after line 18), insert:
7 New section 63(2)(c)(viii) inserted (Application for registration)
After section 63(2)(c)(vii), insert:
(viii)
be accompanied by evidence, in a form approved by the Electoral Commission, that the party has rules governing expulsion of members of Parliament under sections 55AAB to 55E.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill to add a new clause 7 to enhance public confidence in the electoral system by requiring parties to have rules around expulsion of MPs by party leaders if they wish to be registered.
